The Conference

LinuxConf [ZA] 2019 is a one-day conference aimed at the Linux and Open Source community within Southern Africa. It provides anyone working on or with Linux and Open Source tools & applications, or with a passion for Open Source development, to discover new trends, network with like-minded individuals, irrespective of whether the attendees are developers, system or database administrators, or anyone else working with Linux and Open Source applications.

Topics covered at the conference will range from Linux Kernel and OS, Linux Distributions, Containers, Virtualisation, System Administration, Open Source Applications, Networking and Development Environments.

LinuxConf [ZA] takes place in the same week as PostgresConf, the PostgreSQL database conference, and PyConZA, the Python programming conference.

Call for Papers

The call for papers for LinuxConf [ZA] 2019 is now open. Proposals can be for any topic within the Linux and Open Source enviroment, covering any skill level and application. If it is Open Source or Linux-based, the proposal will be considered.

If you are doing something interesting with Linux or an Open Source application, feel free to submit a proposal. If you have something interesting to talk about relating to Linux kernel development, that too will be considered. Proposals pertaining to migrating from one Operating System or platform are also suitable topics.

A proposal can essentially cover any topic, as long as it is either Linux or Open Source based.

You can submit either a 40 minute talk, a 3 hour half-day tutorial session, a 6 hour full-day training session or any combination.

Submitting more than one talk is recommended, but not compulsory. Having multiple talks to choose from allows us to select the best balance of talks for the conference.

People with accepted talk submissions (aka speakers) will get a complimentary ticket to the conference.

LinuxConf [ZA] 2019 will be held at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.
For those flying in for the conference, you can use the Gautrain from the airport to Rosebank station and either take the RB3 Illovo bus to The Wanderers Club/Wanderers Protea Hotel or take an Uber/Bolt.


Accommodation is available at the Wanderers Protea Hotel adjacent to The Wanderers Club, or at any of the nearby hotels, guest houses or airbnb's.
